Trump campaign tries to steal Beyoncé’s ‘freedom’ from Kamala Harris

Donald Trump spokesman Steven Cheung posted a clip on Tuesday showing the GOP candidate landing in Michigan. And in an attempt – and let's be honest, a pretty pathetic one – to troll the Kamala Harris campaign, the clip has been edited to include Beyoncé's song “Freedom.” Cool, dude.

Less than a day after Harris entered the race, the pop superstar gave Harris permission to use the song, and since then the song has been indelibly linked to her historic campaign.

TheWrap has reached out to Beyoncé's representative for comment.

Trump's camp has a history of using songs without the artist's permission, most recently the Isaac Hayes-penned hit “Hold on I'm Coming.” The late R&B star's estate has sued Trump for $3 million over the unlicensed use of the song, which it estimates was used 100 times by the Republican campaign.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Georgia, also names the Republican National Committee and the conservative group Turning Point USA.

In addition to the $150,000 fee for each use of the song, Hayes' family is also demanding a statement that they did not authorize, endorse or permit the candidate's use of Isaac Hayes Enterprises' property at any time or in perpetuity.

Musicians who have objected to Trump's use of their songs in the past include Bruce Springsteen, Adele, Celine Dion, Elton John, Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, the estate of George Harrison, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Earth Wind & Fire.

X-users were quick to point out that it was a mistake to appropriate Beyoncé and her song:

Anna Maltese wrote: “Oh look, you're trying to copy Kamala Harris, that's cute! Of course Beyoncé might see it differently.”

Portland, Oregon-based Badd Company responded: “And now you're being sued again for copyright infringement. You guys are destroying yourselves, good job!”

@ZephyrRN1701G said: “Holy shit… OH NO HE DIDN'T. OH MY GOD…
“Beyoncé, sue him!”
