“More problems for PTI after Faiz Hameed’s arrest,” claims Faisal Vawda

Former Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence and retired Pakistani general Faiz Hameed was arrested by the armed forces and Senator Faisal Vawda hinted at further difficulties for the Pakistan Movement for Justice (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) led by Imran Khan.

Commenting on the first such arrest of a senior military official in the country, Senator Faisal Vawda said that this development would create further legal problems for the PTI.

Speaking to local television, Vawda described this as the beginning of a much bigger problem, drawing a direct link between Faiz Hameed and the Pakistan Movement for Justice (PTI) and hinting that the consequences would go far beyond current expectations.

Vawda said Faiz Hameed and PTI are of one mind. He further hinted that the situation could evolve into something much more significant. The outspoken politician described the Faizabad sit-in as a relatively minor issue compared to the wider implications that will emerge in the coming days.

He also predicted serious consequences for the ailing Pakistani newspaper Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, saying: “In the coming days, the PTI and its founder will face even more legal difficulties.”

However, he praised the current role of the armed forces in terms of accountability and progress, saying that this was an opportunity to celebrate the positive development of the country. He called on political actors to enable the institutions to perform their duties effectively.
