LINCOLN, Nebraska (KLKN) — A former Huskers football player pleaded no contest Tuesday following a fight at a Lincoln bar.

Mitchel Reeves, 41, was found guilty of assault, a misdemeanor.

He was initially charged with a serious crime, but in exchange for his confession the charges were reduced.

According to court documents, the assault occurred on St. Patrick's Day at Down the Hatch near Northwest First Street and West Fletcher Avenue.

On March 17, shortly after 10 p.m., Reeves got into an altercation with another customer, police said.

When a bartender intervened to separate them, Reeves hit the bartender and a “disturbance” ensued, court documents state.

The bartender suffered a broken nose.

Reeves' sentencing is scheduled for September 20.

He played linebacker for Nebraska in 2003 and 2004.
