Defense begins calling witnesses in trial against Robert Telles

The defense began its arguments in the murder trial of Robert Telles on Tuesday.

The trial resumed a day after prosecutors completed their indictment against Telles, who is accused of killing Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter Jeff German.

Defense attorney Robert Draskovich began the day by calling psychologist Dr. Mark Chambers as an expert witness.

Chambers testified that a suicide attempt is not necessarily an indication that someone is guilty of a crime. Prosecutors said Telles attempted suicide before Las Vegas police arrested him in 2022.

The second witness, Tracy Migliore, said she saw the footage released by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police of the suspect in German's murder. She said she called LVMPD and said she saw the person at Bruce Trent Park near Vegas and Durango drives on Aug. 28, but police never questioned her about the tip.

The day's testimony ended early after Draskovich said a witness was dealing with a flight delay and would not be available until Wednesday morning.

The hearing is scheduled to continue on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.

Telles pleaded not guilty, arguing that he was framed for the crime because he tried to expose corruption in the administration.

Draskovich told news agencies that Telles is expected to take the stand later this week.

The Clark County District Attorney's Office is not seeking the death penalty.
