Swedish expat in Spain who once managed the tragic Mike Lynch superyacht gives her verdict on the incident – after the 75m vessel sank off the coast of Italy

The former chief stewardess of the superyacht “British Bill Gates” that sank off the coast of Sicily has commented on the deaths of two people and the disappearance of five.

Monica Jensen, a Swedish expat living in Mallorca, was chief stewardess of the Bayesian from 2018 to 2020.

Speaking to MailOnline, she claimed the tragedy seemed “a bit strange” to her.

Jensen, who crossed the Atlantic on the boat, said she was never in danger while working on board, even though the weather was bad “everywhere.”

However, according to experts, a fatal mast change in Palma was the key factor in the tragedy, as the size of the mast could be the reason for its sinking.

It is assumed that the Mallorcan crew was working on board the luxury boat when it sank. However, no one was injured.

The £30 million yacht sank within minutes after being hit by a freak waterspout on Monday morning.

It belonged to the “British Bill Gates”, Mike Lynch, and was anchored off the coast of Porticello in Sicily.

The group had set sail from the coastal town of Cefalu when they were caught in an unusual waterspout due to bad weather.

About 15 people were rescued after the disaster, but six others are still missing, including Lynch, his 18-year-old daughter and a boss at Morgan Stanley Bank.

The missing people include Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah.

The former stewardess said she did not want to “speculate” about what happened on the 183-foot yacht because it would be “disrespectful” to those involved.

During the pandemic, the Mallorcan-born man was not only responsible for keeping the yacht virus-free, but also for cooking for the guests.

According to her, Lynch always placed “great importance” on the fun of his daughters and their friends.

One of the daughters, 18-year-old Hannah Lynch, has been missing since the tragedy and was about to begin her studies at Oxford University.

Simon Drew, Bayesian’s chief engineer, also lived in Mallorca.
