Local man arrested after financially exploiting elderly and disabled person





Douglas County, Missouri. – Recently, a local man was arrested after financially exploiting an elderly and disabled person in Douglas County, Missouri.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Department, 44-year-old Jonathan James Howell of Mountain Grove was arrested and charged with financial exploitation of an elderly and disabled person, which is a Class A felony. He was also charged with theft over $25,000, which is a Class C felony. Howell was arrested on August 11, 2024, after the department issued a warrant for his arrest. This case was investigated by Detective Nathan Long and was a lengthy investigation that began in December 2023.

Johnathan Howell entered into a contract that included construction work for the elderly victim. The victim paid for all materials and labor that was never performed. She paid over $25,000. The sheriff's office provided no further information and the court's probable cause affidavit is not publicly available.

Howell is being held on $25,000 cash bail.
