“Yellowstone” star Kelly Reilly to play lead role in Sky original “Under Salt Marsh”

Yellowstone Star Kelly Reilly will lead a new Sky Original crime drama titled Under salt marshes.

From writer, creator and executive producer Claire Oakley (Form), who will also direct, the filming begins at Sky Studios Under salt marshes later this year.

The film is set in the fictional Welsh town of Morfa Halen, a close-knit community between mountains and a rapidly approaching sea that threatens their existence. As a once-in-a-lifetime storm brews far out to sea, former detective and now teacher Jackie Ellis (Reilly) discovers the body of her eight-year-old student Cefin, who appears to have drowned. “The discovery sends shockwaves through the community and revives the ghost of an unsolved case that rocked the town three years earlier – the career-destroying disappearance of Jackie's niece Nessa,” says a plot synopsis.

Under salt marshes is a crime thriller set in a community that is deeply connected to its surroundings and intertwined with the grief, fears, dreams and secrets of its people,” said showrunner Oakley. “At the center is Jackie, a character who embodies the wildness of the place we're portraying. She's free-spirited, compassionate and determined, with an iron resolve that makes her a true country girl. We're absolutely thrilled to have Kelly Reilly bring Jackie to life.”

Under salt marshes is produced by Little Door Productions in association with Sky Studios. The series is written by Claire Oakley, Jonathan Harbottle and Nikita Lalwani. Oakley is the lead director, with Mary Nighy directing episodes three and four.

Under salt marshes will be available on Sky and the streaming service Now in the UK, Ireland and Italy. NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution will handle international distribution of the series.
