Elizabethtown teacher arrested for public drunkenness

An Elizabethtown Independent Schools employee is in custody for public intoxication following an incident that occurred before school started Monday morning.

Around 8 a.m., staff at TK Stone Middle School believed a colleague, Tamara Mouser, was intoxicated on school property, according to the school district's Facebook page. The school's security officer was immediately notified and confirmed the staff's suspicions, Elizabethtown Police Department officials said in a statement.

Mouser was arrested and is being held at the Hardin County Detention Center on a charge of alcohol intoxication in a public place, spokesman Chris Denham said.

“I commend the staff at Elizabethtown Independent Schools for their quick action in handling the situation and ensuring the safety of all students and faculty,” Denham said. “The quick response of school staff and our SRO allowed the incident to be resolved without further disruption.”

Mouser had no contact with students between her arrival at the school and her arrest. She resigned from her position effective immediately and Elizabethtown Police are continuing the investigation.
