Doctor charged with sex crimes • Mulch fire could rage for days • Man shoots victims who collapsed in front of house

After a Rochester Hills doctor allegedly secretly filmed women and children in locker rooms, bathrooms, hospitals and his home, authorities are now searching for more potential victims.

Dr. Oumair Aejaz is also said to have recorded sexual encounters with numerous unconscious or sleeping women.

“The victimhood is so vast and the perversion so great that we are only just beginning to understand it,” said Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard. “It's disturbing on so many levels.”

Since Aejaz was arrested at his home on August 8, several search warrants have been executed. These include computers, phones and 15 external devices. Bouchard said 13,000 videos are stored on a single hard drive.

Bouchard compared the scale of the crime to Larry Nasser, the disgraced sports doctor who was convicted of abusing dozens of young women in his care.

Due to the number of victims and the difficulty of identifying them, police have set up an email address for people to contact authorities. If you believe you have been a victim or have information, please contact [email protected].

Mulch fires could rage for days

A mulch fire on Detroit's west side that broke out Tuesday evening could rage for several days, fire officials said.

Crews continue to battle the flames at Detroit Mulch on Prairie Street near Lyndon and Livernois. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

Heavy smoke from the fire has prompted calls from areas miles away from the mulching operation, but it was determined that the smoke was coming from the Prairie region and not from other fires.

According to AirNow, areas near the fire are experiencing a moderate air quality concern as the fire rages, meaning there may be a risk to some people, particularly those who are unusually sensitive to air pollution.

Man shoots people who had a breakdown in front of his house

A 44-year-old man is suspected of shooting at people who broke down outside his Brownstown home after he initially called police early Tuesday morning to report a suspicious vehicle.

According to police, the man called 911 and reported that the vehicle and four people were outside his home on West Jefferson Avenue. The victims were out fishing at night when they broke down around 4 a.m. and tried to have their vehicle towed.

A 911 dispatcher told the caller to stay home, but he did not listen. According to police, the man went outside with a rifle and began shooting. The victims took cover behind their vehicle and were not hit.

“To me, this makes no sense,” said Brownstown Police Chief Jeff Watson. “This gentleman was in his home. He had already called 911. Help was on the way.”

The incident then escalated into a standoff with the police.

The suspect had his son at his home when he refused to cooperate with officers, police said. The standoff lasted about an hour and a half.

Suspects in case of boy killed by beating in court

Two suspects charged in connection with the murder of a 6-year-old boy in Madison Heights are due to appear in court on Wednesday for a probable cause hearing.

Both the boy's mother, Elaina Jennings, and her boyfriend, Daniel Giacchina, are accused of abusing the child and locking him in a pen.

Giacchina was originally charged with possession of a weapon by a prohibited person, possession of ammunition by a felon, possession of a weapon by a serious felony and lying to a police officer, and Jennings was charged with lying to a police officer. Both suspects are now charged with first-degree murder and child abuse in connection with the July 30 death of Giovanni “Chulo” Jennings.

Chulo died on July 30 after Jennings called 911 and reported he was unresponsive in the trailer where she, Giacchina, Giacchina's mother and Jennings' three children lived. His death was ruled a homicide by blunt force trauma and abdominal perforation. According to Oakland County District Attorney Karen McDonald, the boy died “after a long period of captivity and abuse.”

“We have spent over 100 hours reviewing extremely disturbing videos and photos, as well as text messages and Facebook chats describing the horrific things that happened to this 6-year-old boy,” McDonald said. “What we have found can only be described as horrifying.”

McDonald said the boy had bruises and cuts all over his body, including his mouth, and a bloated stomach and an apparent gunshot wound.
