The star of “Rings of Power” reveals how he almost got into trouble at the airport due to a theft on set – exclusively

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is returning to our screens with its highly anticipated second season, and HELLO! caught up with one of the series' stars, Peter Mullan, to talk about his experience filming – and how he almost got into big trouble for taking an item home as a souvenir!

Speaking on the red carpet at the Rings of Power premiere, Peter revealed that he actually took home some of his prosthetics as a memento of his role as the Dwarf King Durin III. He joked, “Am I going to get someone fired? It wasn't expensive!”

However, his cheeky souvenir almost got him in trouble at the airport when his luggage was searched at security. He explained: “They had to search my luggage. As they were doing that, I thought, 'I've got nothing', then I remembered certain parts of my anatomy!

“You might think he would say, 'Okay, I have to call the police now because you've dismembered someone,' but he [shrugged and] looked through the other stuff.”

Although he kept some parts of his costume, Peter admitted that it was certainly difficult to wear.

“[It was] brutal,” he explained. “As an actor, when you say something is brutal, you add, 'But it's not like I worked in a mine.' I worked in a mine on that performance! That was a lesson for me… I'm doing it with 19 hours of prosthetics and the big baggy costume, and just when it's as bad as it can get and you're suffocating under it, they put a six-foot horsehair beard on you. Any ventilation slots that were left are gone. They put a dead horse on you.”

The Scottish actor, who has also starred in “Westworld” and “Ozark,” joked: “Are you worried about airports? Are you worried about the state of humanity? Why would anyone not care about very realistic parts of the human anatomy in a bag?! I would be worried!”

When asked what to expect from his character in the second season, he explained: “My guy becomes a junkie! He ruins everything for everyone. He becomes very bitter, twisted and mean and has a terrible falling out with his son that leads to all-out war in Dwarfland.”

The second season of Rings of Power will premiere on Prime Video on August 29th.
