Elgin man accused of attacking Houston Hoedown board member – Post Bulletin

HOUSTON, Minn. — An Elgin man is accused of assaulting a Houston Hoedown board member during the festival, according to the indictment filed in Houston County District Court.

Colton Brent McNallan, 19, is charged with third-degree assault, fifth-degree assault, underage drinking and fleeing from a police officer.

According to the criminal complaint, Houston police were contacted around midnight on July 28 by an adult male who reported that a man had assaulted a board member of the Houston Hoedown.

Officers observed a shirtless man, later identified as McNallan, running down the middle of a Houston street. When an officer turned on his patrol car's hazard lights and approached McNallan, McNallan climbed over a fence into the backyard of a residence, the complaint states. After his arrest, officers found two unopened Michelob Ultra beer cans in his front pockets.

Officers met with the board member, who said he was in the process of closing the beer and bratwurst area when a man approached him and wanted to use the restroom. The man approached the board member and wanted to go around the building to use the restroom.

The board member put his hand on the man's shoulder and pointed toward the restrooms. They began shoving each other back and forth when the man grabbed the board member and slammed him onto the sidewalk, the complaint states. The board member landed on his shoulder and the man landed on top of him.

The complainant sustained a massive tear in both tendons in his shoulder.

In jail, McNallan told officers he had been drinking all day at the festival grounds and ran off when he saw police. McNallan had a blood alcohol content of .275.

McNallan's first appearance is scheduled for September 19.
