Man accused of shooting and killing dogs commits suicide, SAPD says

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police have identified the man accused of shooting two dogs on the North Side earlier this month.

Authorities said 44-year-old Jesse Cohn died Tuesday after police obtained a search warrant for his arrest on August 14.

Seven days ago, SAPD knocked on Cohn's address, which officers learned was in the 8500 block of Wakefield Road, and reported that police were on site with a search warrant in hand.

Shortly after the officers arrived, they said they heard a shot from inside the house. The officers then surrounded the area, called the special unit and then planned to enter the house.

When officers went inside, they found a man, later identified as Cohn, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Cohn was then taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

Police believe Cohn was the suspect who shot two dogs within two blocks of each other in the 1000 block of West Mariposa Drive on August 10.

SAPD investigators later learned that Cohn was involved in other cases of animal cruelty, including placing food on the street and then attempting to hit the animals with a vehicle.

The department said the case remains under investigation.
