Woman sentenced to life in prison after two-year murder investigation in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (KKTV) – 38-year-old Deka Simmons has been sentenced to life in prison without parole after a two-year murder investigation.

The CSPD originally charged Simmons with the murder of 48-year-old Daxcimo Ceja in 2022. His body had not yet been found at that time.

On October 5, 2023, CSPD received an anonymous tip that human remains were located in a bag near the 500 block of W. Polk St., east of I-25 and Fillmore St.

Simmons was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus an additional 24 years for bodily harm and three years for tampering with evidence.

The prosecutor said she is charged with premeditated murder, violent crime with a weapon, violent crime resulting in death, tampering with evidence and tampering with a human body.

“The successful outcome of this case against a woman who has proven to be a danger to members of our community required the dedication and persistence of many members of my office,” said District Attorney Michael Allen.
