Detroit Lions latest injury update on right tackle Penei Sewell

The Detroit Lions have the potential to have one of the best offensive lines in the entire National Football League. Of course, the health of the unit is key to the success of the entire offense.

Fans held their collective breath when it was reported Wednesday that former No. 7 pick Penei Sewell had left practice due to a left foot injury.

According to the Detroit Football Network, a team source said Wednesday night: “He's doing well.”

When I spoke to a few players after a long practice game, there didn't seem to be much concern that the talented attacker might be seriously injured.

Reporters were able to observe Sewell leaving the field under his own power, wearing sneakers.

“You always worry about a guy like Penei, but that's the reality of this league,” second-year tackle Colby Sorsdal said, via the Detroit Free Press. “Nobody's God out there, and as much as we want Penei to be God, anything can happen at any time, so you just have to go when it's your turn.”

Brian Branch, who is also recovering from offseason surgery, downplayed injury concerns for one of the league's best right tackles.

“Hopefully it wasn't anything serious or anything. I don't think it was, so we're just praying,” Branch said today after the conclusion of the last training camp open to the media.
