Authorities said a convicted felon was charged with attempted murder after he allegedly opened fire on an occupied vehicle in Woodstock on Monday night.

Woodstock police responded to a shooting call around 11:53 p.m. Monday.

Woodstock Police Chief John Lieb said officers encountered the victim, who reported his vehicle had been hit by gunfire.

Officers discovered bullet holes in the victim's vehicle, Lieb said. The male victim was not injured in the shooting.

An investigation determined the incident occurred in the 600 block of Park Street in Woodstock. Evidence of the crime was found and collected, Lieb said.

The police officers managed to identify the suspected perpetrator and determine his whereabouts.

A search warrant was obtained and executed on the suspect's residence in the 600 block of McHenry Avenue.

Jason F. Spitzer, 39, of Woodstock, and Lauren M. Sounde, 39, of Woodstock, were both taken into custody, Lieb said.

Spitzer was charged with attempted murder, delivery of 15 to 100 grams of meth, dangerous use of a firearm and illegal possession of a firearm.

Sounde was charged with delivery of 15 to 100 grams of meth and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County District Court alleges Spitzer fired four shots at the male victim, who was traveling in his vehicle.

The complaint stated that Spitzer intended to kill the victim and that the vehicle was hit by gunfire twice.

According to court documents, Spitzer is seen on video firing the gun at the victim. Spitzer is currently on probation and is free in other criminal cases.

The lawsuit also stated that Spitzer was a convicted felon and illegally possessed a Taurus G3 pistol.

Spitzer and Sounde were found to be in possession of around 40 grams of methamphetamine, the complaint said.

Digital scales and a large amount of packaging material for medications were also seized in the apartment, the complaint states.

Sounde also possessed a clear plastic bag that contained two individual plastic bags containing 22 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, the complaint states.

Spitzer and Sounde were taken to the McHenry County Jail to await an initial court appearance.

According to court records, McHenry County judges refused to release both suspects pending trial.
