Infiniti Q50 gets grace for 2025

Infiniti's last car is done as the brand discontinues the Q50

Infiniti Q50 gets grace for 2025

  • 2024 is the last year for the Infiniti Q50.
  • The model was introduced in 2013 and remained largely unchanged.
  • The Q50 was Infiniti's last remaining car, so the brand is a pure SUV brand until the new electric car range is released.

Barack Obama is back in the news, and with him something that was introduced during his time in office. No, we're not talking about the Affordable Care Act, but the unpopular Infiniti Q50.

Introduced at the 2013 North American International Auto Show, the Q50 was Infiniti's entry-level sedan, but it eventually became the brand's only car as the Q70 was discontinued in 2019 and the Q60 coupe was discontinued in 2022.

Unfortunately, the years have not been kind to the model, as it has been largely neglected. The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine was discontinued nearly five years ago, while the design has remained largely unchanged for a decade. Sure, there have been a few improvements, but it would be difficult to tell the 2014 model from the 2024 model.

Given this complacency, it's not surprising that sales have plummeted. Infiniti sold 6,201 units in the United States last year, up 29.7% from 2022. While that doesn't sound too bad, Infiniti sold 25,987 Q50s in 2019 and 34,763 in 2018.

Aside from that brief jump in 2023, Q50 sales have declined every year since 2016, when the company sold 44,007 units in America. That downward trend is expected to continue in 2024, as Infiniti sold just 2,839 Q50s in the second quarter, down 11.1% year over year.

While few will mourn the end of the Q50, the previous model started at $43,050 before a $1,150 delivery charge, undercutting German rivals and offering a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 with up to 400 hp (298 kW / 406 PS).
