Seven title fights will take place in Japan within two days.

In the opening fight, Takuma Inoue will defend his WBA bantamweight title for the first time. He will face fellow countryman Seiya Tsutsumi on October 13 at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo. The fight will be broadcast live on ESPN+ in the US.

Inoue-Tsutsumi and the rest of the show were confirmed during a press conference in Tokyo on Thursday presented by Mr. Honda's Teiken Promotions. The evening's supporting program will see former champions Kenshiro Teraji and Cristofer Rosales square off in a vacant WBC flyweight title fight. The winner will take the belt recently vacated by Julio Cesar Martinez, albeit under dubious circumstances.

Also in the show:

  • Okayama's Seigo Yuri Akui (20-2-1, 11 KOs) defends his WBA flyweight title against Thailand's Thananchai Charunphak (25-1, 15 KOs)
  • Shokichi Iwata (13-1, 10 KOs) from Tokyo and Jairo Noriega (14-0, 3 KOs) from Spain will face off for the vacant WBO junior flyweight title.

Inoue (20-1, 5 KOs) is attempting to defend the WBA 118-pound title he won last April for the third time. He was the first beneficiary following the retirement of his older brother and now four-division champion Naoya Inoue, who vacated all four bantamweight titles.

Takuma Inoue has been slowly making a name for himself. The Ring's No. 3-ranked bantamweight impressed with a ninth-round knockout of former 115-pound titlist Jerwin Ancajas on February 24 at the Kokugikan Arena in Tokyo. Just ten weeks later, he returned to face Naoya on May 6 at the Tokyo Dome show, ending his outing with a 12-round victory over fellow countryman Sho Ishida.

Tsutsumi (11-0-2, 8 KOs) is fighting for his first major title, amid a remarkable career recovery following in-ring tragedy.

Despite his unblemished record, Tsutsumi suffered the injuries inflicted on Kazuki Anaguchi. Tsutsumi won their brutal ten-round bout on December 26th by unanimous decision. Anaguchi never recovered from the brain injuries he sustained in the fight and died in February.

Tsutsumi continued his career courageously. On July 7, he defeated Weerawat Noolae in the Kokugikan in the fourth round by KO

Teraji (23-1, 14 KOs) won the WBC middleweight title twice. The 32-year-old from Kyoto, Japan, became The Ring and unified WBC/WBA champion in November 2022 after defeating undefeated compatriot Hiroto Kyoguchi by seventh-round KO.

The win was the first defense of his second title after reclaiming the belt earlier this year. Teraji suffered an 11th-round knockout to Masamichi Yabuki in their terrific September 2021 slugfest. The fight was postponed for two weeks after Teraji previously tested positive for Covid.

A much healthier version of the action fighter defeated Yabuki in three rounds in their rematch in March 2022. Three defenses followed, including a close points victory over Carlos Canizales (26-2-1, 19 KOs) on January 23 in Osaka. Their 12-round bout remains a contender for Fight of the Year in 2023.

In recent fights, Teraji has always had trouble maintaining his weight. He has never missed the 108-pound mark, but has frequently stressed that he would only maintain his weight if he could continue to unify his weight.

His last defense came on January 23 in Osaka with a Fight of the Year victory over Carlos Canizales (27-2-1, 19 KOs). Teraji maintained his record of 14-1 (9 KOs) in major title fights.

Nicaragua’s Rosales (36-7, 22 KOs) had fought for exactly this title in his previous fight.

He captured the title in Japan by defeating Daigo Higa in April 2018. He made just one title defense before losing to Charlie Edwards later in December of the same year. In a second title fight, Rosales suffered a ninth-round knockout to Julio Cesar Martinez in December 2019.

Martinez successfully defended himself seven times before resigning from his post earlier this year, but it was later revealed that he tested positive for banned diuretics and was suspended until the end of 2024.

Rosales has won five straight since a questionable loss to Angel Ayala in the IBF title eliminator in April 2022.
