Floyd Mayweather defeated Conor McGregor with a 15-punch combination, scoring a famous KO and winning the $400 million fight

Floyd Mayweather ended his legendary boxing career with a spectacular combination of punches that knocked out Conor McGregor.

In August 2017, the former five-weight world champion improved his perfect record to 50-0 in a bizarre and lucrative fight against a boxing novice.

McGregor was the biggest star in combat sports after knocking out Eddie Alvarez to win his lightweight belt and become the first dual-weight champion in UFC history.

“Notorious” had already pretty much outgrown his sport before he switched to boxing and faced the man who some fans consider to be the greatest boxer of all time.

The Irishman started relatively well and even managed to land a few impressive punches – but he seemed to lose his balance and was unable to generate the power he had shown in the UFC.

Mayweather allowed McGregor to knock himself down before stepping on the gas and eventually scoring a TKO victory in the tenth round of “The Money Fight.”

McGregor was completely exhausted at this point. The 36-year-old, then 29, was so tired that he could no longer raise his hands to defend himself against his opponent's attack.

Footage of the fight's ending sequence shows Mayweather landing 15 punches in a row while battering McGregor, who bravely refused to go down.

Finally, referee Robert Byrd intervened and stopped the fight.

Despite the result, McGregor emerged victorious and collected $100 million for his effort, while Mayweather cashed a check for $300 million before retiring from professional boxing.

That seems like a lot of money, but whoever donated their money was quickly repaid, as Mayweather vs. McGregor sold 4.3 million pay-per-views in the United States.

That was just shy of the all-time PPV record of 4.6 million, which some say will never be broken, set when Mayweather fought Manny Pacquiao two years earlier.

Ticket revenue at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas totaled $55 million. Again, only Mayweather vs. Pacquiao topped that number, which grossed $72 million.

Even after his retirement, Mayweather earned millions in boxing.

The 47-year-old has fought several lucrative exhibition fights against influencers Logan Paul, Deji and Aaron Chandler and has also competed against MMA fighters and an old sparring partner.

Mayweather is expected to return to action on Saturday night in an exhibition fight against John Gotti III in Mexico.

McGregor has toyed with the idea of returning to boxing, but has focused primarily on MMA and his business empire since his debut in the sport seven years ago.

“Mystic Mac” has a 1-3 record in UFC fights since his fight against Mayweather, but that didn’t stop him from topping Forbes’ list of richest athletes after earning around $180 million in 2021.

McGregor broke his leg during a trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021 and has been sidelined since then.

A comeback fight with Michael Chandler has been planned since February 2023, but 18 months later it still hasn't taken place.

McGregor broke his toe and pulled out of a scheduled main event at UFC 303 in June. It is now unclear whether he will return to action in 2024.

McGregor and Chandler have publicly agreed to fight each other in December, but Dana White is unsure if his biggest star will compete before the end of the year.

MMA fans are eagerly awaiting official confirmation of McGregor’s long-awaited and highly anticipated comeback fight.
