15-year-old arrested for fatal Sanford shooting using headphones: police

A 15-year-old boy was arrested on first-degree murder charges following a fatal shooting in Seminole County last month, police said.

Sanford police arrested the teenager Wednesday in connection with the murder of 22-year-old Brandon Leo of Orlando. Officials said he was already in custody on another charge.

Leo was shot and killed outside a Sanford home in July while trying to sell a pair of headphones, police said.

Sanford police officers responded to reports of a shooting shortly after 9:30 p.m. on July 20 near West 3rd Street and Pomegranate Avenue.

Officers found a white pickup truck partially submerged in a retention pond near the intersection. Leo was found dead inside.

After a preliminary investigation, police said Leo apparently met with someone at a home “to sell a pair of headphones,” later determined to be a pair of Apple AirPods. Police said Leo pulled into the driveway of the home and was waiting in his truck when two unknown suspects approached the driver's side of the truck and began shooting.

Bianca Gillett, spokesperson for the Sanford Police Department, told FOX 35 that the transaction apparently began online and that a meeting was arranged at the Sanford home. She said the home itself was empty, making it appear as though this was a “trap” to take advantage of Leo and the sale.

She said Leo appeared to be an innocent victim.
