Kangana Ranaut’s emergency runs into trouble!

Kangana Ranaut plays multiple roles in her latest venture Emergency: She is a producer, screenwriter, director and lead actress! This biographical drama film is based on the life of Indira Gandhi. It features a star cast with many well-known actors like Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman and Satish Kaushik. Indira Gandhi's life as a political leader was very controversial and it also affected a religious minority of India who faced harsh consequences after her assassination. Such topics require sensitive portrayal.

But Kangana Ranaut seems to be taking a revenge on the Sikh community with her repeated comments on it and now with the misrepresentation in this film. The incident of her being slapped by a Sikh security guard at the airport was in the news a few months ago. It is her repeated attacks on the community that have drawn strong reactions. Emergency portrays Sikhs in a very negative light. They are portrayed as terrorists who prey on the masses. None of this can be factually verified and the sentiments of the community are bound to get hurt. And the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has demanded a ban on Kangana Ranauta's film.

While curbing artistic expression is common practice in Bollywood, this seems to be a sensitive issue as it directly damages the image of an entire community. We can only hope that a reasonable resolution of the matter can be found before the film's release on September 6. The opinion of the audience and critics will ultimately prove to be crucial in determining the outcome of this highly controversial project.
