Death of a woman after argument in residential complex captured on Facebook live video

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — A woman was shot and killed after a fight broke out at an Alabama apartment complex. The incident was captured on video live on Facebook.

The Jefferson County Coroner identified the victim as 21-year-old Asia Poole of Birmingham.

A video circulating online and shared by AL.com shows a number of people, including Poole, fighting outside the Monarch Ridge Apartments on Gallant Drive, formerly known as Valley Brook.

The videos show dozens of shots fired around 10 p.m. following a fight that started in the apartment complex's parking lot.

Shortly thereafter, Birmingham Police officers responded to a call of shots fired. The Birmingham Fire Department pronounced Poole dead in the parking lot of the apartment complex at 10:31 p.m.

A second victim – a man – was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The video also shows crying and a car allegedly belonging to Poole fleeing the scene.

Sergeant LaQuitta Wade told Al.com the video will help law enforcement in their investigation.

“We have received some calls, but it is alarming how many people were present and did not intervene to prevent this. It is sad and our deepest condolences go out to the victim's family,” she said.

Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin posted a post about the shooting on Facebook.

“Last night, a physical altercation occurred on the private property of Valley Brook Apartments that resulted in a shooting and the death of a young mother,” he said.

The prosecutor's drug enforcement team is investigating the shooting, he said.

“The shooters have two options: They can immediately turn themselves in to the Birmingham police or be hunted by the BPD and U.S. Marshals,” Woodfin said.
