Proceedings against Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor dismissed after arrest in July

Prosecutors in Broward County, Florida, dropped charges against Pro Football Hall of Fame member Lawrence Taylor this week after he was arrested in July for failing to report his change of residence as a registered sex offender.

According to Broward County District Attorney's Office records, the District Attorney's Office has closed proceedings against Taylor, meaning the case has been closed through dismissal, settlement, guilty plea or other verdict.

“We have successfully proven that Lawrence is innocent. We are deeply grateful to the prosecutors in this case for ensuring justice is done,” Lawrence's attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, said in a statement.

Taylor, 65, turned himself in to the Broward Sheriff's Office Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and was released on bail on July 18 after being arrested on a warrant.

Eiglarsh said in an email to The athlete at the time of the arrest that it was a “misunderstanding” and that Taylor would not plead guilty to the charges.

The former New York Giants linebacker was arrested in December 2021 for failing to report a change of address.

Taylor was required to register as a sex offender after pleading guilty to sexual misconduct and visiting an underage prostitute in New York in 2011. He was also sentenced to six years' probation. Taylor told Fox News at the time that he did not know the girl was underage.

Taylor spent his entire 13-year NFL career with the Giants and was named to the Pro Bowl 10 times and All-Pro eight times. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1999.
