18-year-old man allegedly shot his girlfriend's father in Broward

POMPANO BEACH, Florida. – An 18-year-old man has been in Broward County’s main jail in Fort Lauderdale since Wednesday.

Lawan Jones remained in jail without bail Thursday as he faces charges of first-degree murder with a firearm.

Jones, who turns 19 in September, is a suspect in the murder of Keith B. Poole on Monday afternoon in northeast Broward.

“Poole was standing outside his home when a person he knew began shooting. Investigators say the shooter fled the scene after the incident,” Miranda Grossman, a spokeswoman for the Broward Sheriff's Office, wrote in a statement Monday.

According to a relative, Jones was with Poole's daughter, who witnessed the fatal shooting. Poole was 44.

Officers from the BSO and Pompano Beach Fire Department arrived at Poole's home at 1585 NE 28 St. shortly before 4:45 p.m. Monday after the shooting.

Jones allegedly took Poole's daughter, Jessie Poole, after the fatal shooting. Lighthouse Point Police officers went to 2201 NE 34 St. to assist police officers.

“Jessie Poole has been safely located and reunited with her family,” Carey Codd, a BSO spokesman, wrote Wednesday.

Investigators have asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Detective Steve Novak at 954-321-4325 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 to remain anonymous.
