Traveler arrested after fatal attack on 65-year-old man in Pittsburg

Pittsburg police arrested a homeless man in connection with an attack that resulted in the death of a 65-year-old man on Railroad Avenue in the city of Pittsburg.

According to Pittsburg Police, officers were dispatched to the 2200 block of Railroad Avenue at 6:37 a.m. Tuesday morning for a reported physical altercation between two adult males.

Upon arrival, officers found an unresponsive 65 year old man suffered significant facial trauma. Despite life-saving measures, the victim was pronounced dead. Several witnesses on scene provided a description of the suspect that matched video evidence from local businesses.

The officers searched the area and were able to quickly locate the suspect. He was a 28-year-old Billy Ray Darby Jr. a traveler from Pittsburgh.

Investigators are currently looking into what led to the altercation. Darby has been arrested and the case will be presented to the Contra Costa District Attorney's Office in the next few days. Information about the victim is currently being withheld until next of kin are notified.
