A Langley man was arrested after allegedly brandishing a firearm during a driving rage incident in Surrey last week.

A driver called 911 shortly after 8 p.m. on August 15 to report that he was threatened with a firearm during an argument with another driver in the 14800 block of Fraser Highway.

“This confrontation arose due to driving behaviour and the accused was in front of the victim's vehicle when he exited and pointed the weapon at the victim,” said Cpl. Sarbjit K. Sangha of the Surrey RCMP.

No one was injured and the victim called 911 after the incident.

Officers patrolled the area but did not immediately locate the vehicle.

The driver and vehicle were identified through video surveillance and 37-year-old Dariusz Tonderys was arrested the next day in the Fraser Highway (block 27100) in Aldergrove.

The firearm allegedly used in the crime – which was a replica firearm – was seized from a nearby home in the 27200 block of 33A Avenue, police said.

Tonderys was charged with assault and threats of murder or assault. He was released on conditions, including not possessing any weapons, including imitation firearms.

His next court date is scheduled for September 11 in Surrey Provincial Court.

“This was a very dangerous incident for the victim and everyone who witnessed it,” said Sangha. “Fortunately, no one was physically injured.”

The investigation is ongoing and police said further charges may be recommended.
