New Delhi: A teenager tragically fell to her death while fetching clothes from the third floor balcony of her house in Sagarpur, southwest Delhi. The tragic incident, which took place late on Wednesday night, was captured by a CCTV camera in the area and showed the 17-year-old girl falling on the road.

The CCTV clip, which was widely shared on social media, shows the teenager falling from the balcony onto the street below as people gathered at the scene of the accident.

The 17-year-old suffered serious injuries in the fall and was taken to hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.

Giving details, a senior police officer said they received a call at 7.12 pm on Wednesday that a girl had fallen from a balcony in Dabri Extension area of ​​Sagarpur.

“The injured girl was taken to DDU Hospital where doctors declared her dead,” the official said, adding that no foul play was suspected at present and prima facie it was a case of accidental death.

Citing statements from family members of the deceased girl, the official said the teenager, who lived with her parents and two siblings, was picking up clothes from a line on the third-floor balcony when she slipped and fell to the street below.

The family, originally from Haryana, said the deceased was suffering from mental illness and was undergoing treatment in Panipat.

“No foul play is suspected so far and the case is being investigated from all quarters after a case is registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita,” police said.
