24-year-old man arrested for murder in suspected drug trafficking in Miami-Dade

MIAMI – Records show that Broward Sheriff's Office officials confiscated his iPhone when Walter Arrington was 20 years old.

Forensic investigators from the BSO and Miami-Dade Police Department said they analyzed the data.

Miami-Dade investigators reported that their findings linked Arrington to the 2020 murder of a 44-year-old man in south Miami-Dade.

“The cell phone records seized indicated that Mr. Arrington was at the crime scene at the time the victim was shot,” Detective Melanie Ginoris wrote in her recent motion for an arrest warrant.

Detectives reported that John Bullard was shot in the chest during a burglary at approximately 2:30 a.m. on September 5, 2020, at 14741 Harrison Street in Richmond Heights.

“Homicide detectives interviewed the 911 caller, who reported that he had come to the apartment to purchase narcotics,” Ginoris, a Miami-Dade Homicide investigator since 2021, wrote in the arrest warrant.

Records show that Luz “Lucy” Ozuna told investigators on September 18, 2020, that she was at the scene of the shooting.

According to records, evidence in the case also included communications between Ozuna and Arrington via the TextNow app.

At Ginoris' request, Miami-Dade County Judge Laura María González-Marqués issued arrest warrants for Ozuna and Arrington.

Police officers arrested Ozuna on Tuesday in Florida City and Arrington on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. near Southwest 254 Street and 135 Court in the Princeton neighborhood of Miami-Dade.

Miami-Dade correctional officers transported Arrington to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center shortly after 1:40 a.m. Thursday.

Ozuna was charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and armed burglary. Her defense entered a written not guilty plea on Wednesday.

The court scheduled her detention hearing for 9:30 a.m. Thursday and her arraignment for Sept. 10 at 9:30 a.m. District Judge Zachary N. James will preside over the case.

Investigators asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
