One dead after car crash in Cass County

Cass County Sheriff's officials are investigating a fatal car crash that occurred Thursday morning in Silver Creek Township.

The car was traveling south on Garrett Road north of M-62 around 11:57 a.m. before crossing the center line and heading east off the road, officials said.

According to authorities, the vehicle rolled down a ditch and then came to a stop in a field.

The driver, who was initially trapped under the vehicle, was taken to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

The passenger was also taken to the hospital, but officials said he refused medical treatment.

Seat belts were not being worn at the time of the accident and officials believe alcohol or drugs were not a factor, according to the sheriff's office.

The names of the victims will not be released at this time until families have been notified.

This incident remains under investigation by the Cass County Sheriff's Office.
