Health Not Harm MD raises concerns about reproductive freedom change

Health Not Harm MD held a press conference in Towson at noon on Thursday, August 22, calling on city and county officials to clarify their stance on the Reproductive Freedom Amendment.

Health Not Harm MD, a group that advocates for protecting parental rights, is raising alarm about a proposed reproductive freedom amendment on the November ballot. The amendment, which will appear as Question 1, could create a new right for everyone, regardless of age.

Deborah Brocato, the group's chair, fears that if passed, the amendment could override existing laws protecting parental rights.

“The proponents and supporters of the amendment claim that there are laws in Maryland that deal with parental rights, but they know that all laws

must comply with the Constitution,” says Brocato. “The Constitution takes precedence over any such law.”

Despite efforts to do so, the Maryland General Assembly did not include any age limits or requirement for parental consent in the amendment.
