Patriots make changes to offensive line in practice due to Vederian Lowe injury – NBC Sports Boston

The New England Patriots offensive line is currently in transition as the team tries to find the best lineups for each position and struggles with a new injury.

Prospective left tackle Vederian Lowe left practice early on Wednesday with an apparent injury. He was absent from practice on Thursday. MassLive's Mark Daniels reported on Thursday that Lowe is dealing with a mild oblique injury.

Chukwuma Okorafor replaced Lowe at left tackle during Thursday's session. He was joined in the starting offensive line by Sidy Sow at left guard, David Andrews at center, Layden Robinson at right guard and Mike Onwenu at right tackle.

Patriots offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt admitted Thursday that the offensive line is still a work in progress and he hopes the team will have more clarity after the final game of the season against the Washington Commanders on Sunday.

“That's still a work in progress, too. We're still evaluating everything – you'll see different lineups every practice, you'll see guys switch sides, go from guard to tackle, right tackle to left tackle,” Van Pelt told reporters Thursday.

“We're trying to find the five best guys — maybe not the five best players, but the five best guys working together as a unit. … Hopefully this game will clarify that for us.”

The offensive line is probably the most glaring weakness on the Patriots roster right now. It's a hugely important part of the team, and aside from David Andrews and Mike Onwenu, there's not much reason for optimism right now.

It will be interesting to see if the Patriots bring in outside help as roster cuts make more players available ahead of Tuesday's league-wide deadline. The Patriots have reportedly inquired about left tackle Dennis Daley, who was released by the Arizona Cardinals earlier this week.
