Released West Bank prisoners show signs of torture and skin diseases |

On Thursday evening, Israeli authorities released more than 40 Palestinian political prisoners from various prisons, interrogation centers and detention camps. These prisoners had served their sentences and several administrative detainees were being held without charge. Many of them showed signs of torture and skin diseases.

The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) reported that the prisoners were released at the Thaheriyya military checkpoint south of Hebron in the southern part of the occupied West Bank, outside Ofer Prison west of the central West Bank city of Ramallah, and near the Salem military base and checkpoint east of the city of Nablus in the northern West Bank.

The PPS reported that some of the released prisoners are suffering from skin diseases. This is particularly true for those released from the Negev detention camp. The camp is known for torture cases, as numerous testimonies from relevant organizations confirm.

The first photographs of the released people showed clear physical changes resulting from the systematic mistreatment and torture they had suffered during their detention.

These images illustrate the serious impact of such abuses; several of the released prisoners were transferred to Palestinian hospitals immediately after their release.

It is important to highlight that these releases come in parallel with the ongoing invasions and kidnappings. Since October 7, 2023, over 10,200 kidnappings have been confirmed in the West Bank alone. In addition, thousands of citizens are being held in Gaza, with the fate of most of them remaining unknown.

As of early August, the total number of prisoners in the occupation camps was over 9,900. This number does not include those abducted in the Gaza Strip and held in occupation military interrogation camps, where they are subjected to systematic torture and ill-treatment, which has led to the deaths of many prisoners.
