North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper says Harris will fight for America

The NPR Network will be reporting live from Chicago all week and bringing you the latest from the Democratic National Convention.

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper delivered closing remarks before Vice President Harris' keynote address, vowing that a Harris administration would fight for ordinary Americans.

“America, we have a lot of big fights coming up. And we have a damn good fighter ready to take them on,” Cooper told the crowd in Chicago.

“I know this because I know her. And tonight I want the American people to know that even if you don't agree with her on everything, Kamala Harris will fight for you to the end.”

Cooper was at one point considered one of the potential candidates for Harris's vice presidential nomination – a position that ultimately went to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

“Kamala is ready. The question is: are we ready? Will we stand up and fight for Kamala, just as she will stand up and fight for us,” Cooper said.
