Pedestrian killed in accident in Brockton on Tuesday evening

A 57-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a car in Brockton on Tuesday evening, the Plymouth County district attorney said in a statement.

The victim was Domingos Gomes of New Bedford, the prosecutor said.

Police received reports of a pedestrian accident at the intersection of North Quincy and Hovenden streets around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, the statement said. Authorities took Gomes to Brockton Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, the district attorney said.

The statement said the driver of the car that allegedly hit Gomes remained at the scene of the accident and called 911.

The investigation into the accident is still ongoing, the prosecutor said.
