Man arrested in Lakeside after woman reported being hit with gun

Shortly before midnight on Wednesday (August 21), a Coos County Sheriff's deputy responded to a reported disturbance at a residence in Lakeside.

A desperate caller reportedly told the emergency services that she had been hit with a gun and was bleeding from her ear.

According to police, the suspect was in possession of two firearms – one of which was described as an AR-15 rifle – and was currently firing the rifle.

The caller identified the suspect as 58-year-old Rodney P. Yeiter.

Officers from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Oregon State Police, North Bend Police and additional units from the Coos County Sheriff's Office responded.

While officers were on scene, Yeiter was arrested without incident.

An AR-15 rifle was found under the reporting party’s trailer.

After further investigation, Yeiter was taken into custody for unlawful use of a weapon, second degree assault, menacing, and two counts of illegal possession of a firearm.

He was taken to the Coos County Jail and booked.
