The Texas author wants to help others through grief by telling her tragic story

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Everyone grieves differently.

For Theo Boyd, writing was an outlet.

“I started keeping a journal and felt like my grief was not being heard,” Boyd said.

Boyd felt unimaginable grief when her father accidentally killed her deaf mother on the family farm.

The events that followed that day were also tragic. Boyd had to pick up the pieces and deal with many losses at the same time.

“My counselor, who was helping my father and me through the grieving process, died suddenly,” Boyd added. “And then, a few months later, I found out my husband was having an affair.”

A few years later, Boyd said, she wanted to surprise her father with breakfast on Father's Day and found out that he had taken his own life.

She said she knew her story would help others who are also coping with loss, so she decided to publish it for the world to see.

In My grief is not like yours, Boyd talks about the tools that helped her cope with the tragic death of her parents and how she gradually rebuilt her life.

Readers can meet Boyd and have her sign their book on August 24th from noon to 3 p.m. at Barnes & Noble College Station.
