“Let’s go”: Upcoming Arsenal transfer receives approval from famous Fabrizio Romano

Ah, the famous 'Here We Go'. It's a phrase that has both blessed and haunted Arsenal this summer transfer window. However, Fabrizio Romano has applied that seal of approval once again, but this time it will delight Arsenal fans beyond belief. Their long-awaited transfer for Mikel Merino is now set to be completed.

Mikel Merino was a real eye-catcher when he won EURO 2024 with Spain this summer. The 28-year-old midfielder is playing at the peak of his powers and is currently one of the best midfielders in La Liga, but it seems he has played his last game for Real Sociedad.

So Fabrizio Romano has given the transfer the infamous ‘Here We Go’ sign, but what terms of the deal do Arsenal fans need to know?

According to Fabrizio Romano on X (formerly Twitter), there is now a verbal agreement for Arsenal to sign Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad. The transfer fee Arsenal will now pay is €32 million plus €5 million in additional payments, which are considered cheap. In addition, Mikel Merino will sign a contract at the Emirates Stadium until 2028, a four-year deal.

Mikel Merino has received offers from several clubs, but Fabrizio Romano claims he has only ever wanted Arsenal. In fact, the transfer saga has dragged on for a long time, but now it seems Arsenal have finally found their man. An announcement will be made in due course, but Arsenal fans can now be assured that a deal is close to being finalised.

Mikel Merino is expected to fill the Granit Xhaka gap after the Swiss midfielder left Arsenal in the summer of 2023. He could step straight into the first team, with Mikel Arteta preferring Merino over Thomas Partey.

Assuming the deal for Mikel Merino goes smoothly, he would be Arsenal's fourth signing in the summer 2024 transfer window. They have already signed David Raya, Tommy Setford and Riccardo Calafiori.

In truth, Arsenal didn't need to make any “significant signings”, but Mikel Merino represented a golden opportunity in the transfer market that Mikel Arteta couldn't pass up. He will be a solid addition to the team and improve Arsenal's midfield options.

Do you think Mikel Merino is a good signing for Arsenal?
