Italian authorities investigate turbulence at EasyJet

The Italian Civil Aviation Authority has launched an investigation into a turbulence incident in which two EasyJet flight attendants were seriously injured.

The incident occurred on August 19, 2024. According to local media reports, the turbulence was so severe that one flight attendant broke her leg and another severely sprained her ankle.

Italy's aviation authority launched a safety investigation after the incident to determine whether the incident was unforeseen or whether it was detected on weather radar and therefore underestimated.

“The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is EasyJet's top priority and our pilots are trained to deal with turbulence,” an EasyJet spokesperson commented after the incident.

What happened on flight U2-8210?

On August 19, 2024, EasyJet flight U2-8210 was en route from Corfu (CFU) to London Gatwick (LGW). The flight was operated by an Airbus A320-214. There were 181 passengers and six crew members on board the flight.

Italy's National Aviation Safety Agency (ANSV) reported that the incident occurred shortly after the plane entered Italian airspace. The turbulence began at 1:01 p.m. local time, when the plane reached an altitude of about 28,000 feet (8,588 meters).
