REXBURG, Idaho (KIFI) – A woman is dead and a suspect is in custody after an overnight shooting in Rexburg.

Rexburg Police officers responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired near Lilac Street in the Mill Hollow neighborhood around 11:15 p.m. Thursday night.

When police arrived, they arrested a male suspect without incident and found a woman with multiple gunshot wounds. They attempted to provide emergency medical treatment, but the woman died at the scene.

There is no ongoing threat to the population.

The police are still investigating and ask you to avoid the area for now.
