The famous computer cafe is now archived online

You might think that TV channels or production houses would be great at archiving, but that is not always the case. Especially from a public access perspective. However, if you are a fan of The famous computer café, You're in luck! The popular series is now available on the Internet Archive!

If you are unfamiliar with the show, it was a radio show that aired from 1983 to 1986. It was broadcast on various radio stations in Southern and Central California during that time. The producers made sure to keep a copy of each episode in tape format. These tapes were tragically lost for years until archivists [Kay Savetz] was able to salvage some of them at a recent estate sale. The digitization was funded through a GoFundMe campaign and the show was posted on the Internet Archive with the blessing of the original creators.

This is quite a cultural success, especially when you look at the show's guest list. Timothy Leary, Bill Gates, Jack Tramiel and even Douglas Adams appeared in the recovered recordings. Unfortunately, however, not all of the tapes were recovered. Episodes featuring Gene Roddenberry, Robert Moog and Ray Bradbury are still lost.

If you feel like listening, there are currently 53 episodes in the archive. Take a trip back in time and hear how some technological visionaries – and futurists – at the beginning of the microcomputer age give their opinion! If you come across any particularly interesting gems, don't hesitate to report them to us via the hotline.
