ARLINGTON, Virginia. – The Arlington County Police Department (ACPD) is committed to community policing, a philosophy and practice that aims to involve everyone in the safety and well-being of our community. As part of this commitment, the ACPD strives to build trust and confidence with those we serve through increased transparency and communication and has established a Crime Data Hub as an additional tool for our community to stay updated on reported criminal incidents in Arlington County.

The Crime Data Hub includes dashboards and maps of crime and general arrest data. These dashboards and maps allow community members to search for crimes over date ranges for specific geographic areas, visualize how crime has changed over time, and query general arrest data. Before launching the Crime Data Hub, the dashboards and maps were shown to various community groups and asked for feedback to ensure they met the needs of our community.

About Crime Data

The Arlington County Police Department reports crimes using the Federal Bureau of Investigations' National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS). NIBRS data is reported as Group A and Group B/Other crimes. Group A crimes are divided into three categories: crimes against persons, crimes against property, and crimes against society. More information on which crimes fall into these categories and a definition of each crime is available from the FBI.

The Crime Data Hub is updated weekly on Wednesday mornings and is provided for informational purposes. The data contained in the Crime Data Hub is preliminary and subject to change based on subsequent criminal investigations. A comprehensive database of crime reported annually in the state of Virginia is available on the Virginia State Police (VSP) website.
