Chilean man arrested in connection with exploitation of 14-year-old girl, Glendora police say

LOS ANGELES (CNS) — A 21-year-old Chilean man suspected of meeting a 14-year-old girl through an online gaming application, grooming her and sexually exploiting her before planning a meeting with her in the Glendora area has been taken into custody, police said Wednesday.

According to Glendora police, detectives from the Glendora Police Department worked with assistance from Homeland Security Investigations to arrest Daniel Aravena Oliva at Los Angeles International Airport on Monday. They were able to link him to an IP address traced to Chile as part of an investigation into his “inappropriate online relationship” with the girl.

Investigators found that Oliva allegedly manipulated and abused the teenager across multiple online platforms over a period of six months.

With crucial assistance from HSI, Glendora investigators were able to confirm the suspect's travel plans to California. “The suspect had arranged to meet with the victim in person and booked lodging near her residence,” police said in a statement.

Oliva was detained at LAX airport by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents.

He was later taken into custody by GPD detectives and Homeland Security Investigations agents without incident, police said.

Oliva was charged with several crimes related to child exploitation and the production of child pornography.
