Man killed by gunfire on MacArthur Avenue

OAKLAND – A 43-year-old man standing outside was shot Thursday night, police said.

The man was in the 9000 block of MacArthur Avenue in East Oakland, an area with many homes and businesses, when he was struck by a bullet around 11:05 p.m., police said.

Authorities had not released his identity Friday morning pending notification of his relatives. No arrests were announced.

The killing was the 61st Oakland police investigated in 2024 and one of two that occurred Thursday. Police said the shootings were not related.

At this point in 2023, police had investigated 72 murder cases.

According to police, the man lived in the area of the shooting. They had no information about possible suspects or a motive for the shooting.
