Ogun State – A tragic incident occurred in the Papalanto area in which a truck claimed the lives of two people.

The accident occurred early Friday morning, August 23, and was reported by Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE).

Akinbiyi explained that the accident, which involved an Iveco truck with registration number KJA 166 XJ and a tricycle with registration number TRE 627 VP, was caused by reckless driving by the truck driver.

As The Punch reported, four people were involved in the accident – ​​two men and two women – with the two women tragically dying.

According to Akinbiyi, the truck driver fled the scene after the incident, leaving behind the devastation he had caused.

He explained:

“According to an eyewitness account, the truck attempted to overtake the tricycle as both vehicles were travelling towards Abeokuta near Papalanto.

“During the maneuver, the truck pulled the tricycle along its side, causing it to fall in front of the truck and be run over by it.

“This tragic incident resulted in the instant death of a grandmother and her granddaughter, the only passengers on the tricycle.”

He also noticed that the truck driver fled the scene before he could be arrested, Leadership reported.

The bodies of the deceased were subsequently handed over to their families and he warned motorists about the dangers of reckless driving.

28 people die in accidents on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that two tragic accidents occurred on the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, leaving 28 people dead and many others injured.

The accidents occurred on Tuesday, August 13, in two locations: in Ajao, opposite the Bovas petrol station on the Ojoo/Iwo road, and in Malo, both on the Lagos/Ibadan expressway.
