Identification of five fatalities in Texas fire could take weeks or months – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

According to the Tarrant County coroner, it will likely take weeks or perhaps even months to positively identify four of the five people who died in a fire accident in Fort Worth on Monday morning.

According to Fort Worth police, the driver of a black Camaro was speeding around 12:30 a.m. Monday when he crashed into the back of a sedan on the northbound lanes of Interstate 35W near Seminary Drive. The impact turned into a fireball that killed all five occupants of the sedan and injured the driver of the Camaro.

The identities of the victims have not yet been confirmed by the Tarrant County Coroner's Office. The coroner's office told NBC 5 on Friday that the victims of the crash are believed to be two adults and three children.

“One adult could be identified in the next few days. However, the other four deceased must be scientifically identified through DNA testing, which will take several weeks to months,” the coroner's office said.

One of the adult victims was identified by family members to NBC 5 as 48-year-old Willie Gunn. His family said he was in the car with his girlfriend at the time of the crash and the three other victims in the vehicle were their children. Gunn's family said he leaves behind two children of his own.

The driver of the Camaro, identified by Fort Worth police as 19-year-old Eduardo Gonzalez, was arrested and faces five counts of manslaughter and driving under the influence. At last check, Gonzalez was being held on a total of $750,000 bail. It is unclear if he has an attorney to speak on his behalf.
