Accident on Highway 65: Man from Pleasant Hill dies, three others injured

Pleasant Hill police identified the man killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 65 Thursday as Leonard Ochylski of Pleasant Hill.

Emergency crews were dispatched to Highway 65 near East University Avenue for a four-vehicle crash around 12:40 p.m., Capt. Amy Kramer said in a news release. The crash caused traffic to be backed up on the highway for several hours.

Investigators concluded that a northbound car crossed into another northbound lane and collided with another car, Kramer said. The collision sent the two vehicles into the median and into oncoming traffic in the southbound lanes of Highway 65.

Both cars collided with two other cars in the southbound lane, Kramer said.

Two of the four injured were rescued from their vehicles.

Three were transported by ambulance and one by rescue helicopter. Ochylski, one of the three taken to local hospitals, later died.

Pleasant Hill police did not release Ochylski's age. The news release also does not indicate whether Ochylski was a driver or passenger or what vehicle he was traveling in.

The other people were treated and released, Kramer said.
