Virginia man dies in fiery accident on I-66 that closes express lanes in Fairfax County.

A man has died after a serious accident on Interstate 66 in Fairfax County, Virginia. The express lanes were closed for several hours while emergency services assessed the damage.

A man has died after a serious accident on Interstate 66 in Fairfax County, Virginia. The express lanes were closed for several hours while emergency services assessed the damage.

The man killed was identified as Devin G. Stewart, 23, of Fredericksburg, according to Virginia State Police.

The accident occurred at 7:51 a.m. on I-66 westbound near the Capital Beltway interchange.

Stewart was driving a construction vehicle westbound on I-66 in the regular lanes when he passed traffic bollards and entered the express lanes of I-66, police said.

His vehicle hit a guardrail and then a side wall, overturned and caught fire.

According to police, the flames damaged nearby E-ZPass system equipment. Emergency crews closed the westbound express lanes to assess the damage.

The state police are still investigating the accident.
