Man floods jail cell after being arrested for violating protection order: South Euclid police report

A resident reported on August 11 at 12:04 a.m. that a man hit her as she was trying to evict an uninvited guest from her home as she was closing the front door.

When officers arrived at the house, they learned that the woman had a restraining order against the man, who appeared to be drunk.

The resident declined to press assault charges, but the 43-year-old Shaker Heights man was arrested for violating the protection order. He said he had been at the home for three days and was unaware that a protection order was in place.

While the man was in jail, he was additionally charged with criminal damage for intentionally flooding a toilet by throwing an unknown object into it and flushing it down the toilet.

Found object: South Belvoir Boulevard

A set of keys was found in Quarry Park North and handed over to police on August 13.

They were stamped with the words “Cuyahoga County.” A recreation department official said county trucks are often seen in the park, but the vehicle had no markings to indicate which agency it belonged to.

Harassment: Cedar Road

A Flagstar Bank employee reported on August 13 that she was harassed at work by a woman from South Carolina who came to the bank to conduct business but also made several innuendos toward an unknown man.

After the woman left the bank, she looked up the man's name and called him. He said he was having marital problems with the woman who came to the bank. He said he had been to the bank in 2023 and the employee gave him her business card. He suspected that she had found the card and believed that he was cheating on her with the bank employee.

The officers contacted the suspect and asked her to stop communicating with the employee.

Attack: Stilmore Road

On August 12, at 2:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to a dispute at a home in the 4200 block and witnessed the end of a fight between two women.

They learned that the two were staying with friends because they had no power due to a recent storm.

The argument started when one of them was about to go to bed and the other was already in bed. They did not know each other before they met in the house.

Officers concluded that one of them was the primary aggressor in the altercation and arrested the 35-year-old Akron woman for assault.

The other woman suffered minor injuries but did not seek medical treatment.

Theft: Warrensville Center Road

A woman reported her phone and wallet stolen at Walmart on August 18.

She believed the items had been stolen by a group of teenagers because the phone beeped in the parking lot where they were huddled and the group had bumped into her while running around in the store.

Officers spoke to some of the teens but were unable to locate the items. It was subsequently determined that the phone was transmitting signals from a location in Cleveland.

Surveillance videos were analyzed and showed about ten teenagers near the woman at the time of the theft. However, it was unclear whether any of them had stolen the items.

General Help: Warrensville Center Road

A man said on August 13 that his debit card was wrongly charged by a Walmart employee.

Officers, along with Walmart management, reviewed surveillance video and found that the newly hired cashier had not separated the man's payment from that of the people behind him, resulting in an additional charge of $535.

The incident turned out to be an honest mistake, and the man received a refund on his debit card.

Theft: Mayfield Road

Two 12-year-old boys were caught pushing a shopping cart full of groceries out of the Giant Eagle without paying on August 18.

They were subsequently handed over to family members and will be charged in juvenile court with the theft of $401.
