Shooting in Chicago: 49-year-old man shot, 21-year-old man injured in Austin on North Leamington Avenue, police say

CHICAGO (WLS) — On Friday evening, two men were shot on the west side of the city, one of them fatally.

Chicago police said officers responded to an alarm using gunshot detection technology in the 700 block of North Leamington Avenue in the Austin neighborhood at around 4:55 p.m.

Two victims were found at the scene. A 49-year-old man had a gunshot wound to the head and a 21-year-old man had a gunshot wound to the leg, police said.

The 49-year-old victim was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital and was initially reported to be in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead.

The younger victim was also taken to Mount Sinai and is said to be in stable condition.

While the Chicago Police Department's investigation continues, no one has been arrested.
