Killeen man sentenced to probation for pointing knife at police officer | Crime

On Wednesday, Judge Wade Faulkner in the 478th District Court accepted a plea agreement and sentenced Torres to seven years of probation, according to Bell County court records.

Torres was released from Bell County Jail in March of last year after posting $70,000 bail.

On February 20, 2023, Killeen police were dispatched to a psychiatric emergency call in the 2000 block of White Avenue. There they found a man who “wanted to be killed by police,” according to an affidavit. A woman reported to police that Torres “was recently released from the hospital after suffering multiple seizures and was intoxicated after consuming alcohol.”

Torres became “schizophrenic” and “screamed at her while holding a kitchen knife,” police said.

Other witnesses said Torres damaged property in the house while “yelling and waving the knife around.”

While the officer was speaking with a witness, Torres left the house and approached an officer “who was brandishing a large black kitchen knife.”

The officer repeatedly asked Torres to stop and retreated behind his vehicle.

“Torres continued to follow (the officer) despite being asked to stop,” police said. The officer “used nonlethal force in the form of a (taser) when Torres approached within approximately 10 feet of him and refused to stop or drop his weapon.”

In another case decided this week in another courtroom, a Waco woman was sentenced to probation after kicking a Killeen police officer in the groin during her arrest.

A Bell County grand jury indicted 32-year-old Jaime Elaine Dotson on October 20, 2021, for third-degree assault on a public servant. She pleaded guilty on June 18, court records show.

On Monday, Judge Steve Duskie sentenced Dotson to five years probation.

The incident occurred on August 27, 2021, when a KPD officer was dispatched to a residence in the city for a disturbance.

There, the officer found Dotson involved in a loud argument with several people at the scene. Dotson struck one of the people, whereupon the officer attempted to arrest her.

According to police, Dotson actively resisted arrest and began kicking the officer as she was being escorted to the police car. According to the affidavit, she kicked the officer at least once in the groin area.
