Stratford High School football game evacuated, canceled at halftime

GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) – Goose Creek Police said a high school football game was evacuated following an incident Friday night.

Stratford High School's football game against Summerville was stopped at halftime after someone in the crowd yelled something about a gun and people started running, Goose Creek Police Chief LJ Roscoe said.

Out of an abundance of caution, officials evacuated the stadium, but there were no signs of a shooting.

The Summerville Green Wave football team issued the following statement on the matter:

Tonight's Stratford ballgame has been postponed indefinitely due to unforeseen circumstances in and around Stratford High School and Stackley Field.

The game was abandoned after the end of the first half with the score Summerville 28, Stratford 14.

The spectators were then asked to leave the venue.

The safety and well-being of our student-athletes, fans and community members is our top priority.

I wish everyone present this evening a safe journey.

We will update as soon as more information becomes available.

Goose Creek Police continue to investigate the incident.

No injuries were reported.
